THE HOLY TRINITY OF LOVE
The word
"Trinity" stands out as a Holy name in two of the major Faiths of the
world - Hinduism and Christianity.
Hinduism evolved the
term of Holy Trinity as the three faces of One God- (i) God The Creator,
Brahma, (ii) God the Preserver, Vishnu, and (iii) God the Destroyer,(Mahesh.
Thus God creates when
He gives birth to the Universe and also to man, then He preserves His
Creation,as he regulates the stars and galaxies and the Universe, and the life
of man, answering the prayers of man and putting the instinct of love, faith
and service into him and finally He destroys His Creation when He comes as
Death, and in the end when he brings about a cataclysmic catastrophe signalling
the end of the Universe.
Christianity has the
three well known faces of the Trinity, God, the Father, Jesus Christ the son,
and the Holy Spirit.
with which all of us
are already familiar.
I have my own Holy
Trinity, My Father, My Mother, and my Grandfather!
Yet there exists a
Holy Trinity which we see around us all the time but are never conscious of.
It is the Holy
Trinity of Love. Here are its three ingredients.
(i) There is the
Lover (ii) And there is his beloved (iii) and there is that invisible force
called Love.
When the intensity of
Love is very great the Lover asks nothing of his Beloved except the Beloved!!
And the Beloved asks nothing of the Lover except the Lover!
Have you ever heard
of a lover asking for material things from his beloved? Have you ever heard of
a lover asking for peace and prosperity from his beloved, or wealth or status
or good health?
Or a life filled with
joy and happiness?
No. The lover asks
nothing of the beloved except the beloved. If he gains the beloved he has
everything that he wants and he wants nothing else. The same is true of the
Beloved who wants the lover and nothing else.
But the devotees of
God, those who claim to love God, are always selfishly asking for hundreds of
things from God, solutions to their problems, health, wealth, material
prosperity, and just about anything else they can get from him. Many desire God
because they want heaven and salvation from him.
Is there any devotee
of God who wants God just for the sake of God and for nothing else, not even
for heaven and salvation and eternal peace and eternal bliss?
Lets face facts there
is an element of selfishness in what we call the worship of God - because we
are always asking for things from God.
The real love for God
would be exhibited when someone were to say:
"O God! I want
nothing from you, not even heaven and salvation and eternal peace and
happiness-- all I want is YOU!"
This is what a lover
would say to his beloved or a beloved would say to the lover.
There is a legend
that the famous lover, Majnu had gone insane in his love for his beloved Laila
and would wander around the streets in tatters calling upon her name.
God was so pleased
with Majnu that he sent word through his angel that he would like to come to
meet Majnu.
Majnu responded:
"If God wishes
to come and meet me, then tell him to come as Laila! Otherwise I dont wish to
meet him!
Everyone in the world
should examine his or her own heart to find out how intense is his or her love
for God, and whether the intensity has reached such a level that he or she is
willing to forego even heaven and salvation for the sake of God.
Legend goes, that
when Majnu died he went to heaven for his genuine love for Laila. While he was
in heaven he was told that Laila had been sent to hell for her sins in the
world.
Majnu screamed till
his cries shook the skies and said out loud to God:
"O God! Thy
heaven is worse than a hell for me without Laila! Send me to the hell where you
have sent Laila-- that will be my Heaven. My heaven is to be with Laila no
matter whether it be the earth, hell or heaven!"
This is Real Love.
Those who can boast of having such a love for God are truly very advanced and
enlightened souls and I must take my hats off to them.
For the rest, I would
say, go and study the lives of lovers, they may tell us the real meaning of
love.

SHRI NATHJI'S PORTRAIT AND EMMA
When my father, Shri
Bhola Nathji (1902-1992) who was later the Founder of the World Prayer Day for
Peace, was in the Himalayas of Mussoorie in the 1930's he met an artist of
great repute, Shri Roop Kishore, who ran a wonderful and spacious Art Gallery in
that part of town in the Roxy Building.
Many a leading public
figure including prime minister Nehru and Gandhi had their portraits made by
him and exhibited in his shop as life size wooden cut outs.
When he saw the
divine beauty of HH Shri Nathji he prayed to be given a chance to paint his
portrait. And so the portrait which is shown in this post came into exitence
colored by the hands of this venerable artist of the town.
As the portrait
adorned his show case more and more people came to be anamoured of it and many
wished to purchase it and keep it in their homes. But the artist would not let
go of the picture, it had become the soul of his shop. Ever since the portrait
was placed there the visitors to his gallery doubled and trebled an kept on
increasing in numbers a never ending flood.
There was an old lady
in Mussoorie, a woman of considerable means and very advanced in years. She
made a plea to the Artist that the portrait had robbed her heart and she could
not live without it. She was wiling to pay any amount that he asked to purchase
it and keep it in her home.
At first the artist
was reluctant to sell the portrait which had become the soul of his shop-- but
when the old lady explained that she may not have many more years to live and
would wish that this portrait be before her eyes before she left the world, the
artist had no option but to sell it to her at a very nominal price.
AS soon as word got
around in the town that Shri Nathji's potrait was no longer in the gallery, the
townsfolk came and protested to the artist that the portrait was a place for
them to come and pay homage to Shri Nathji , and the gallery had always felt
like a shrine with the portrait, but now that the picture was gone it was a big
loss to the town.
Then the artist tried
very hard to get the portrait back from the old lady, but she said it was her
life and she could not give it back.
The Artist came and
told of his plight to Shri Nathji and asked him for a solution. Shri Nathji
finally found a solution. He called the old lady to his home and said to her:
"Dear Mother!! I
would wish to ask something of you! I am sure you will not refuse anything to
your son!! I wish to ask of this portrait from you, I wish to keep it in my
home where people can come and view it any time, which they cannot do in your
house. "
"But,
Nathji", said the old lady, "how will I live without it?"
And Shri Nathji said
to her:
"Dear Mother! I
promise you that after this portarit is gone from your house you will see me
everywhere inside your house, you will see me in the walls, in the open windows
and the skies, you will see me in each and every atom, in each and every leaf
of your trees, each and every blade of grass, you will see me in your heart and
soul, you will see me whenever you wish to see me and wherever you wish to see
me -- and I promise you I shall always appear before you!"
And it was thus that
the old lady gave the portrait to Shri Nathji which then hung on a wall inside
his house and people would come in the hundreds and take a glimpse of it and
bow before it and be filed with the blessings and benedictions they got from
it.
The old lady on her
part -- was the happiest woman on earth. No matter where she looked and no
matter when she thought of Shri Nathji she always found him there. it was as if
he was now a part of her heart soul and body and her home! It was as if he was
there in the form of his portrait. She would ever afterwards narrate this
miracle to all who came to visit her and said that she would be the happiest
person on earth when she died with this image of Nathji before her eyes, heart
and soul.
This historical
portarit still hangs in the drawing room of my father, HH Shri Nathji at
Mussoorie above a central wooden mantelpiece and visitors still come there and
bow before it whenever they get the chance.

Priya Nathji Performing on WBZ TV in Boston
This is a picture of
myself, Priya Nath Mehta, on WBZ TV in Boston USA with the program being
broadcast across the USA.
I was playing the
electric Hawaian Guitar and singing some verses of the Rubaiyat of Omar Khayam.
I was in the studio
of WBZ TV, and had taken time off from my physics classes at Harvard as a
graduate student there for my Ph.D in Nuclear Physics!!
Technically I had
"bunked" my physics classes at Harvard! LOL. But they were watching
the program in their common room!
