HOW MUCH WEALTH DO YOU DESIRE?

Indeed it is very strange when the parents have been led to believe in righteousness, goodness, contentment and God Realisation as the goals of life, but they, in turn teach their children that status and wealth are the goals they must pursue in life. The pushing towards greater and greater prosperity starts right from the time they join school.
There is very little taught to them about generosity, kindness, love, mercy, righteousness and contentment and God Realisation.
All this results in the rat race for material possessions and the resulting selfishness and cruelties that become inherent features of the children when they are grown up into adults.
Those whose goal in life is prosperity and wealth should be asked: "How much wealth do you want?"

And they should be told the story of Alexander the Great who invaded a small king and easily defeated him.
The small king capitulated gracefully and laid out a delicious banquet to receive the conquering Emperor, Alexander.
When Alexander and his generals began to eat the sparkling food they almost broke their teeth on the eatables laid out on the table.
"What kind of a joke is this?" Alexander asked in a rage, 'are you trying to kill us with stones in the food?"
The small king replied:" No, Sire! These are not stones. They are diamonds, gems and rubies worth millions!"
Alexander said with anger: "What do you mean by giving them to me as food?"
The small king said: "Sire, we thought these precious stones was your food!"
Alexander: "My food is like that of any ordinary man-- bread!"
The small king said: "Sire, were you not getting bread in your own kingdom to have invaded mine? I thought these precious stones were your food so I gave them to you in the banquet!"
Alexander was so affected by the words of the small king that he got up from the table and left the kingdom he had invaded, giving it back to the small king.
Here was a lesson for those who believed in wealth as being the goal of human life.
