THE EXISTENCE OF THE SOUL
===========================================
From the Thoughts of HH Shri Bhola Nathji (1902-1992)
a Great Spiritual Luminary who gave peace and beatitude to countless folk, relieving them of their sorrows and sufferings.
He was renowned for making the most complex of Spiritual Truths simple and easy to understand. Intellectuals and philosophers, ordinary folk, and even children, nodded in agreement with the irrefutable logic of his honeyed words that carried a divine touch which took everyone beyond space and time.
His Invisible Presence and his words continue to guide humanity even today.
===============================================
You say that you exist-- but where is that "you"? Is it the chest that you point to? Is it the Face? The heart? Or the brain? Or any part of the body? Where are you?
Science has not been able to discover whether there is a soul inside the body. Various faiths have various theories about the existence of the soul.
Look at your body. Can you even put a lighted matchstick to a little finger? No you will scream with pain.
But a day comes when the whole body is burnt on the funeral pyre, and it does not utter a cry. So you were not the body.
Can you bear to have mud cover your face? No. But a day comes when the entire body is buried inside mud, when you are put in a grave. And you don't feel suffocated. So you were not the body.
There is something inside the body which guides all the organs of the body.. the brain, the heart, and everything else in it which feels and understands and has every emotion in it, and which feels it is eternal and immortal and which feels a spontaneous relationship with God..
It is something which is not visible to the instruments of science. But there are many things that are invisible and which exist, like the air, which remains around you all the time keeping you alive without making its presence felt. You cannot "see" hunger, but you feel it. You cannot "see" thirst but it is there and it forces you to drink water. Your eyes cannot "see" their own selves but they see the whole world..
When people are dying they often say:"Goodbye.. Alvidaa.. Khudaa Haafiz.." which shows that they are going away, even though their bodies are before us.
Think of a glove covering your hand. As you move the hand, the glove moves accordingly. A person who is seeing this for the first time will say: "Look at that moving glove!"
But when you take off the glove, the hand is revealed inside. It was the hand moving the glove, and not the glove moving all by itself. In a like manner it is the soul moving your body, and not the body moving by itself.
Think of a car with its windows blacked out. It goes into a village where people have never seen cars before. The people see it move forwards and backwards, turn to the left and to the right, slow down and speed up etc, etc.. and they come to the conclusion that the car is a "living thing" moving by itself.
Then one day the engine breaks down. The door of the car opens and the driver of the car gets out of the car and goes away, leaving the car standing in one spot forever.
No one in the world has seen his own "death". Only others look upon it. This is because the soul is eternal and immortal and does not die, and therefore cannot see its own death.
Why does everyone in the world have the feeling that he is going to live forever? This is the feeling of the soul inside the body which knows that it is eternal and immortal and is going to live forever.
Death cannot come to the soul because it is eternal and immortal. And, without the soul, the body is dead matter anyway, so it is meaningless speaking of death coming to something already dead.
So Death cannot come to the body and death cannot come to the soul. So what is death?
Death is the name of the separation of the soul from the body. The body ceases to exist while the soul returns to God.
The soul is a part of God. If God is the Sun, then the soul is a ray of its light. The soul is a part of God within you which you call life. A soul is like a drop of water and God is like the ocean of which the drop is a part.
