A PICTORIAL HISTORY OF HH SHRI BHOLA NATHJI FROM 1929-1992

Here is my father, HH Shri Bhola Nathji (1902-1992), the Founder of the World Prayer Day, in various pictures taken over the years from 1929 to 1992. Pictures that start with his father, Shri Babaji Maharaj, and his handwritten prophecy of 1926, that declared HH Shri Bhola Nathji to be God upon earth as the Servant of the Earth. Here he is as the handsomest man in the world in his youth as well as middle age and old age till up to the age of 90, when he still retained his unique divine beauty and a divine radiance that shone from his Face all the time.

Here he is shown at diverse places, Mussoorie in the Himalayas, New Delhi, Allahabad, Nagpur, and later in London and in Cambridge Mass USA at Harvard and MIT, here he is shown in Italy with the Catholic fraternity at the Pope's Palace,. Here is his handwritten mission in life:

"I have no mission except Love in this world,

My mission is Love and my work is Love!"

Here he is shown with admirers and devotees who all felt the powerful aura of Love that emanated from him. He was the nearest and dearest loved one of every person upon earth. His personality went beyond religions and unified them all in a garland of Love Divine. Here he is shown in various dresses, the mystical dress with the head bandanna, the golden turban tied like a crown, the dazzling beare headed appearance, a western hat that made him look handsomer than a Hollywood star, and a Middle Eastern Dress that made him appear as if he were from the Middle East, and the Hindu crown, the Mukat, looking like Lord Krishna or Lord Rama.

Here he is shown celebrating the first World Prayer Day in the world which he had founded - calling upon all the people of the world of all faiths to offer prayers for peace ;"Pray wherever you are in whatever way you like, for peace upon earth". Here are his letters to Reagan of the USA and Gorbachev of the USSR urging them to come together in peace and to shun the use of nuclear weapons at a time when the world was on the brink of a nuclear war. And the overnight miraculous conversion of these long time foes into friends in 1986.

Here he is shown writing his mystical Urdu Poems which ran into over 30,000, and which were written when he was very ill between the ages of 80 and 90. Here he is shown bidding his last goodbye to the people of the world on the World Prayer Day of 1992. Here he is shown with his son, Priya Nath Mehta , as in various other pictures of himself and his wife Smt. Savitri Devi (1916-1967) and their two sons, Pran Nath and Priya Nath. Here is his vision of a World Prayer Temple where the places of worship of all faiths are joined together to a central hall of the Universe proceeding along the same path Of Love in their own different paths. And His voice ringing out:

"Even as every night must give place to day, and every Autumn turn to Spring, so it is the voice of my heart that the time will come when One God shall exist for all and all shall be His children, Love shall be his worship and the people of the world will know a never ending peace.."

DUSHHERA -THE VICTORY OF GOOD OVER EVIL

Photo: DUSHHERA -THE VICTORY OF GOOD OVER EVIL

Today is Dusherra in India - a day that symbolises the Victory of Good Over Evil.

This was the day when Lord Rama, God Incarnate of the Hindus, vanquished the greatest evil in the world, personified in the form of Ravana, the Powerful and Evil King.

The battle which was said to have occurred some thousands of years ago used weapons of destruction which could well have been compared with the Nuclear Missiles of today!

When all weapons failed on the Evil King, Ravana, Lord Rama invoked the Brahmastra, which literally means the Weapon of God, and thereafter vanquished his foe.

On the day of Dushhera, an effigy of Ravana is burnt in all parts of India, About one billion people celebrate this festival and even the Prime Minister and President of India go to watch the burning of Ravana, symbolising the burning of Evil within man.

But is Ravana really dead? I think not. Judging from the killings, wars and inhumanity of man to man these days, I would say Ravana is pretty much alive in the hearts of many. Or shall we say Satan still lives!

Anyway, on the festival of Dusshera it is common practice to see the grand play of Lord Rama and The Evil King Ravana enacted on stage by ordinary folk dressed up like Lord Rama and Ravana.

They put on a tinsel crown -- and voila! there is Lord Rama on the stage, and another tinsel crown for Ravana, and viola! - there is Ravana on the stage.

In the attached picture, I am wearing a tinsel crown, dressed in my jacket and tie, but maybe enacting Lord Rama at home in celebration of Dussehra!!

Fortunately there is no Ravana around, except for the bad weather!!

But I have to be careful. Like they say "Speak of the Devil and the Devil is there!"

Maybe the real Lord Rama will be there to take care of him when he comes, till then let us hope my tinsel crown will ward him off!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME FROM MY FATHER ON OCTOBER 7

Whenever it was my birthday my Father, HH Shri Bhola Nathji (1902-1992) used to embrace me and pat me on the back as he said these words to me ,which have become immortalised in my life!

And these are the words that I say to my friends on their birthdays, as I believe they contain everything that a person needs in life:

Let me say these words belatedly to those whose birthdays have gone, and let me say these words in advance to those friends whose birthdays have yet to come!!

Actually from last year's October 7, to this year's October 7, one year has passed for all of us in the world. So happy birthday to all the people of the world!!

The Parable of the Floating Blanket

Two friends were walking by the side of a river. They say a dark black blanket floating down in the middle of the river.

"Look!" said one of the friends, "we can get that blanket for free! Someone appears to have thrown it away!"

One of the two friends jumped into the river and swam towards the river and came close to the blanket and grabbed hold of it.

Unfortunately, the blanket was not a blanket but a bear who was floating in the waters taking a bath. The bear grabbed the man , and very soon they were turning and tossing inside the waters of the river.

The other friend who stood on the shore saw this strange turn of events and called out to the man inside the river:

"O leave the blanket! Dont bother if it is hard too heavy or difficult to come out! You come out yourself!"

And the friend in the grip of the bear shouted back:

"I am trying to leave the blanket but the blanket refuses to leave me!!"

So it is with the glitter of the world and man. Man is attracted towards worldly things and worldly joys and the material pleasures they can give -- and very soon finds himself embroiled in them and entrapped by them and in great difficulty and peril.

He tries to flee from them, to give them up.

But , try as he may, he cannot leave the tentacles of the material pleasures that he had run after, on the contrary they get a hold on him and keep on making his life miserable.

THE MIRACLE OF THE PIANO

When I and my brother were about 12 and 14 years old we would go to school along a path that took us through the Bazaar of the City of Mussoorie, in the Himalayas of India, known as Library Bazar.

There we would stop and go inside a shop and look with bewilderment at the large sized pianos there, and would try out our fingers on the keyboards. The shopkeeper was a friendly Sikh gentleman who would let us fiddle around with the pianos there. The shop had devolved to the Sikh gentleman from a British Company called "Bevans" and was known as the Bevan Music House.

As we grew to love one of the pianos there, we went home and told our parents about it. My father, HH Shri Bhola Nathji, talked to the shopkeeper. But the price was exorbitant and unaffordable running into thousands of rupees. We were heart-broken as we had given up our hearts to the piano!! lol!

Then one day the owner of the shop came to visit my father and narrated his plight:

"I cannot afford to run this shop any longer. I am quitting the city and settling down elsewhere. I am getting rid of the stock in the shop. The pianos are much too big to take with me. I wish to sell the grand piano to you, which your children like so much, for only Rs. 500."

A grand piano for Rs. 500 which was the equivalent of $ 10/- was nothing short of a miracle! I knew it was my father, HH Shri Bhola Nathji's, miracle!

And the next day saw the piano in our dining room where it still stands.
In this picture I am shown playing the piano after my return from Harvard to see whether it was still working! It was! Though a trifle out of tune!

THOUGHTS OF HH SHRI BHOLA NATHJI FOR PEACE OF MIND

THOUGHTS OF HH SHRI BHOLA NATHJI
FOR PEACE OF MIND

FOR PEACE OF MIND

O, Man! When thou dost do something in
secrecy thou thinkest that no one watches
thee! But it is not so.

Where thou art, there exists Someone in the
innermost recesses of thy Soul, who is
watching thee each second of the day and
everywhere.

He knows of each and every atom of thy
body and he observes all thy actions and
thoughts.

The four directions observe thee; the walls
observe thee; the windows observe thee; the
doors observe thee; the trees in the forest
observe thee; the sun, moon, and stars
observe thee.

And He who is hidden in
everything, He, the Everlasting Existence
which manifests Itself in every atom, has
His eyes on thee!

Thou canst never see Him, but He sees thee
all the time. Where is thy secrecy, therefore?

O, Man! If only thou wouldst realize this
truth, that He is always watching thee, thou
wouldst free thyself of all sin and would be
released from fear.

It is the Reflection of the Divine Being
which exists in thee and asserts: “I am
looking upon the entire Universe.”

His Voice speaks to thee and tells thee that
what thou doest is wrong or right.

Learn, therefore, to exist in the innermost
recesses of thy soul with thoughts abounding
in Love and Beauty, and thus seek the great
road to Salvation.
