THE THREE HARVARDIAN MUSKETEERS

It was many years ago, when all four of us were together at Harvard University. I owe this vivid remembrance to my friend Raman Mehra who is with me in the photographs and who sent me the photographs after having preserved them over the years. I found Raman just by chance on Facebook. He is CEO of a company founded by him in the USA and is still in the Massachusetts area.!
And I have always loved Facebook since then as a means of connecting with long lost friends.
It is a wonderful feeling to know that one is still remembered even after the passing of years.
In the pictures you can see me with a long overcoat, which I always wore even in moderately cold weather, while the others are in suits without even a sweater. I still seek an excuse to put on warm clothes at the slightest hint of cold weather, even though I was born and bred in the Himalayan Mountains of Mussoorie!! lol!!
Many years just flew by and we went our separate ways. The few days or weeks or months or years we spent together became like a dream as the world of the present came before us.
Prof. Rasul, in the midst of us three youngsters, was a Visiting Professor of Geology at Harvard at the time. We used to gather at his home, where we met his nephew Kazi Jalal.
And it was there that we learnt that Professor Rasul was an excellent singer with a rich voice like that of the famed Saigal. He sang several Urdu Ghazals (Urdu Lyrics put to song),and we began singing along with him.
One of these we converted into a Qawwaalli, a group singing of Urdu Lyrics. And very soon we were famous in the Cambridge and Boston area, and even invited to far off places like Washington DC to sing "Qawwaallis".
For years after we parted I continued to sing Prod Rasul's Ghazal cum Qawwaalli
"Tumhaari Anjuman se Utth ke deevaane kahaan jaate"--
"Indeed, leaving Thy Love where can thy Lovers go?"
But I had no idea where Prof Rasul was or his nephew, the affectionate Kazi Jalal.
Then one day Raman Mehra made a horrendous effort to locate Jalal and he finally found him and got him in touch with me. That very day, I sang the old "qawwaalli" and sent it to Raman and Jalal both!!
Only yesterday I got a phone call from Jalal who is now Dr. Kazi Jalal a professor. We spoke for a long time sharing old reminiscences and old stories and asking each other what we had been doing all these years since parting at Harvard.
And then I asked about Prof. Rasul who was even then much older than us, our senior, so to speak. I was greatly saddened to learn that he had passed away a few years back.
But Prof Kazi Jalal told me that he especially wanted to tell me that for three days just before Prof Rasul passed away he had been almost continuously speaking of me!! In fact all of us and the good old days at Harvard as "singers"!
I was there deep in the innermost recesses of his heart and soul, even as he was in mine!
I still sing all the ghazals I learnt from him, the foremost being,
"Tumhaari Anjuman se utth ke deevaane kahaan jaate"
"Leaving Thy Love where indeed can thy lovers go?"

WHY GOD DOES NOT ANSWER PRAYERS AT TIMES?

Sometimes we discover that God is silent to our prayers and these are the times when we are in great despair.
Why is God silent?
Is He angry with us for some faults committed by us?
Does He not care for us any longer?
Is our Faith not strong enough for our prayers to reach Him?
According to HH Shri Bhola Nathji here are the reasons why God is silent to our prayers:
1. When He knows we are asking for the wrong thing, which may appear attractive to us today, but which will become the cause of a long lasting sorrow.
2. When our prayers are not genuine. We are merely praying as lip utterance and have no real Faith in Him.
3. When we would ask for something at our own time and he would wish to give the same thing at another time, more appropriate.
4. When we are asking for something small and he wishes to give us something far bigger than we ever dreamt of.
PARABLE OF THE HOST AND THE GUEST
A Host invited a guest for dinner. And while the Host went inside the kitchen, the guest waited at the dining table. Minutes went by, and then hours. The guest had been invited to eat at 9 pm but it was almost 11 pm..
And so the guest gets up to leave, not wishing to bother the Host.
Just then the Host comes running out of the kitchen and says:
"Please don't go! The dinner is ready and I am bringing it. The delay occurred because if I had given the dinner at 9 pm , it would have had only two dishes, but I was busy preparing ten dishes!"
Therefore when the Lord delays giving us what we want He may be preparing to give us something far better than we had even imagined.

DIVINE GLIMPSES OF H.H. SHRI BHOLA NATHJI (1902-1992)

Undoubtedly on the worldly plane HH Shri Bhola Nathji was the handsomest being upon the planet earth in the 20th century.
And yet his beauty was not earthly, it was divine.
His incredibly handsome personality with perfect aquiline features, the absolute love and compassion on his face, his benevolent smile, the divine light that shone with a radiance from his face, all made him appear as if he were a Being from some Celestial Plane.
He gave peace and beatitude to countless folk during his lifetime, relieving them of their sorrows and sufferings.
Just to be near him was to feel a divine bliss never felt before in life, in which all one's sorrows and ills were drowned away.
His voice was like divine nectar which reached to the depths of the hearts of people and took them above space and time.
It was astonishing to observe total strangers break out into tears just upon seeing him for the first time. It was as if they had found their Eternal Friend, one whose love and compassion existed only for the people of the world.
He could have become anything that he wanted to in the world, but he chose to efface himself and led a life of abject humility. Truly not only was he the most beautiful and the most loving personality upon earth but also the humblest, who called himself:
"Ghulam Rue Zameen-- The Servant of the Earth"
He would say:
"I am a very old companion of yours. I know you but you do not know me!"
"I have not come to be worshiped. I have come to worship you!"
"Accept me. But not as your Master, as your Servant!"
Even though miracles danced attendance upon him he would not attach any importance to them and would say:
"Speak not to me of miracles,
For I have left miracles behind!"
People saw God in him, but he chose to see God in everyone.
Though many tried to copy him, to plagiarize his writings and speeches, and openly said they were "the chosen ones like Nathji" - yet they forgot one thing. They could never have his face or his radiance or his divine light or divine personality. Indeed they could never be Shri Nathji. They were merely engaging in self-worship revealing their worldly faces in contrast to the Divine Personality of HH Shri Bhola Nathji.
Indeed, those who had met him in life know that there shall never be another Nathji in the world again.
The more you look at his pictures the more you find yourself filled with Peace and Love, forgetting your cares and worries in the world for a while.

"Diwali has come,
What a beautiful Diwali,
Bringing a colour of Lights,

In the darkness of the night,
Thousands of lights are burning
But the light in all of them is the same!
The lights of the Universe and all the lights everywhere,
Come from the Greatest Source of all Light- the Light of God!"

"O LORD! LEAD ME FROM DARKNESS TO LIGHT"

HAPPY DIWALI TO EVERYONE
==============================================
From the tho
light to humanity:
"I have no mission except love in this world,
My mission is Love and my work is Love!"
================================================
On the 11th of November is another Diwali in India when over a billion lamps will light up India. There will be lights in the richest homes as well as lights in the poorest. Maybe the poor will content themselves with one solitary clap lamp, a deepak, with a light as small as that of a candle. While the rich will have a multitude of lights, hundreds of clay lamps and electric lights.
But the light in all of them will be the same -- just light!
And what a strange thing is this that while light can penetrate into darkness, darkness cannot penetrate into light.
Thousands of Diwalis have come and gone, hundreds and thousands and millions and billions of clay lamps and candles have been burnt and have given out their light and they have all gone.
The moment a candle or a clay lamp is lit, it is destined to die out.
The life of a clay lamp shows us that while it lives its life out in fire it gives light to others. And when it dies out it does so in the light of a new morning, the light of the Sun. So its death is in reality a mingling of its light into the light of the Sun.
The clay lamp reveals the picture of human life. The moment a person is born into the world, he is destined to leave. This small life of man must be converted into Eternal Life in God before it goes out.
What is the significance of Diwali?
"O Lord, Lead me from darkness to light!"
What is darkness? Darkness is ignorance, darkness is evil, darkness is everything that leads us away from goodness, and towards the material things of the world which are all perishable.
But darkness is a good teacher -- because when man stumbles and falls in the dark he seeks light and finds it. Similarly evil is a teacher. When man stumbles and falls in evil he must go towards good. And from good he must go towards God - the Light of all Lights where all darkness ends forever!
May this Diwali light up the three lamps of Love, Faith and Service in all of humanity, so that they may come to realise that the new morning will bring before all of them the light of the same Sun - God.
