TRIUMPH OF GOOD OVER EVIL - COMIC BOOKS

Somewhere deep down inside the soul is an Eternal Law of God, written on the Slate of the Human Conscience -- and the Law clearly states that Good is better than Evil and must always triumph over evil.
When I was a little boy in school I used to read a lot of comic books, which were being sold by a Bookseller in the town who could not read or write or speak English, but whose bookshop was full of Comics from the USA.
And that is how I got introduced to a new world of make-believe which I could not appreciate at the time, but which turned into Reality in later days.
In every comic that I read -- whether it was Western Comics, or Walt Disney's Comic Books, or Classics, or Superman and Batman and Wonder Woman and Jungle Girls and Tarzan -- there were always the Good Guys and the Bad Guys.
There were the victims of the Bad Guys who had to be rescued -- and the Good Guys rescued them always!! Giving a "bashing" , a "biff" and a "pow" and a "clunk" to the Bad Guys, and finally taking them to jail!!
And the great thing was that the Good Guys never wanted anything for themselves!! They were selfless, desiring nothing, wanting nothing, just doing good for the sake of doing good!!
There was Superman flying to distant corners of the world to save people from falling mountains and rising oceans, lifting up children from the roads to save them from being run over by cars and buses, -- and then vanishing into the sky without waiting to be thanked!!
They were doing good without being conscious of the act, having no pride and ego, and living only for the sake of the good they could do!!
Although we were frequently told that reading comics was a waste of time but I think it was from there that we received our religious or spiritual education -- that Good was better than Evil and that Good always triumphed over Evil.
I attach some of the comic books of the time which formed part of my "education". Which was not to say that I flunked my classes or bunked them, on the contrary I came first in the class!! Of Course, it could not have been the comics that did that!
By the time I finished buying comic books, half of the bookseller's shop was empty and a cupboard in my home full of the comics I had bought.
Naturally a large number of friends began to visit my home and borrowed the comics, which they either never returned or returned in a tattered state - so much for school mates!!

THE EARTH IS THE LORD'S

From the memoirs of HH Shri Bhola Nathji (1902-1992) who was a Great Spiritual Luminary of his time, and who gave peace and beatitude to countless souls during his lifetime, relieving them of their ills and sorrows, and whose writings still form a guiding light for humanity.
==================================================

The year was 1935.
Shri Nathji was in Patiala in the Punjab in Northern India. He was walking along with a group of people.
"What is beneath your feet?" he asked suddenly. The people were startled. They thought he had seen a snake.
"Nothing," they said
"The ground!" said Shri Nathji, "is it not beneath your feet? And to whom does this land belong?"
"The Maharaja of Patiala."
"And where is Patiala?"
"In the Punjab?"
"So the land here belongs to the Punjab. And where is the Punjab?"
"In India."
"So the land belongs to India. And where is India? On this earth. So the land belongs to this earth. And where is the earth? In the Universe. And where is the Universe?
"It exists in the Will of God. It is His Universe. So the land here belongs to God! The real owner was He! What an array of superficial owners one had imagined!” concluded Shri Nathji.
As he would say in verse:
"Kabko Kumri men hai jhagraa ke chaman kiska hai
Kal bataa degee khizaan ye ki vatan kiska hai
The birds of different feathers do squabble: Who owns this garden?
Tomorrow shall the answer come, when comes the Autumn!"
Shri Nathji elaborated: " In a greater sense we all exist in the thought of God, and therefore we exist in Him! We are a part of His Creation."
And Shri Nathji said: "They drew a circle and threw me out. But I drew a bigger circle and took them in!"

AUGUST 15, INDEPENDENCE DAY FOR INDIA AND MY MOTHER'S BIRTHDAY

I recall that my mother never celebrated her birthday.
She was content with the whole of India celebrating Independence Day and said that that was part of her birthday as well, the day the country got freedom from the British Raj at last.
I recall seeing my father, HH Shri Bhola Nathji (1902-1992) marching down on the Mall Road along with troups of school going children, as one of the eminent citizens of Mussoorie invited to watch the flag hoisting ceremony at Library or Gandhi Chowk in the city.
My mother, Smt. Savitri Devi,(1916-1967) was the youngest daughter of Lala Hargopal Khanna, senior advocate of Lahore and the Legal Adviser of the Punjab National Bank in India. He had the reputation of being amongst the most honest lawyers of the time.
Once when he was young and practicing criminal law, a client brought a false case before him. He was so disgusted and disappointed that he took down his board and stopped practicing criminal law and became a civil lawyer who attained great heights in the Banking and Conveyancing fields. His books on the subject still guide students and lawyers. It is said that when he eventually retired from his post as Legal Adviser they had to hire eleven men of Law to replace that one single genius!
My mother was always detached from the world. Although her father was very fond of her and took her for rides in the only Citroen Car in Lahore at the time, and wished to send her for higher studies to England, her mind remained distracted from the world of materialism. She wished to deliver her life to a noble cause. The plight of the poor and the suffering would cause her insufferable agony. The misery that she saw around her made her shed tears of sorrow for the people of the world. She had the heart of a mother. As the youngest sister in the family she would give away all the new sarees and clothes brought for her to her elder sisters. She had three sisters and three brothers.
She wished to do God's work in the world, and knew that one day she would be marrying a man of God. And that was how her marriage to HH Shri Bhola Nathji came about in Lahore in India in 1939. It was an arranged marriage, but divinely arranged and pre-ordained. She had intense faith in the holiness and purity of HH Shri Bhola Nathji, and saw the manner in which he gave peace to the people of the world. If HH Shri Bhola Nathji was like a lamp that gave light to the world, then she was like the oil and the wick in the lamp that helped sustain the light.
She gave birth to two sons, both of whom became scientists in later life, Pran Nath and Priya Nath (myself). And she finally left the world in 1967. Her last words to my father were : "I know of no other God in the world other than you!"
Although all Indian wives are told at the time of marriage that their husbands are like God, yet in the case of my mother this was a realization that came from deep within and it was a feeling that remained with her all her life.
I have maintained the tradition she left behind, of not celebrating her birthday, but rather celebrating the Independence Day in India and seeing in that the birthday of my mother as well who loved India dearly.

SCIENCE IS DECORATING THE WORLD OF GOD

I write this as a former Graduate School student of Physics and Astrophysics at Harvard University, USA.
It is commonly said that scientists are atheists and do not believe in God. They believe that the Universe created itself.
There are many very orthodox religionists who become vexed with scientists and lose control over themselves.
When the greatest scientist in the world today Dr. Stephen Hawkins said that the Universe did not need God, many a religionist had a field day damning him to perdition and saying that, that was why he was stricken with a horrible disease and confined to a chair.
Such dreadful religionists are no better than the Inquisitors at the time of the bad ages in History.
It was a time when it was a sin to say that the earth was but a small planet moving around the Sun. Galileo was almost killed for this belief. The religionists said that the earth was something special and that the rest of the Universe went around the earth, and didn't matter anyway.
We must thank God that we are living in a much better age although even now the dreadful Hydra of religious intolerance keeps popping its head every now and then.
But the fact is that a scientist cannot, and will not, deny the existence of God because he is a rational thinker, and rational thinking tells us that God is a MUST in the scheme of creation -- no matter whether we believe in evolution or Adam and Eve.
Here is why it is impossible for a scientist to deny the existence of God:
Look at a table made of wood. Now if someone were to tell you that the wood cut itself, the nails came from nowhere and they hammered themselves in, and the table was smoothed and given four legs so that it could be used in a purposeful way to keep things on it -- and that all this happened by itself!
Would a scientist believe it ?
No. Newton's Laws say that nothing can move unless it is moved. A force must be applied before anything is hammered or drilled or planed.
In short: the existence of the wooden table proves the existence of an intelligent force that created the table -- the carpenter!!
The table is before us but the carpenter is not. So how can any scientist ever say that the table created itself? Never.
Look at the Highly Intelligent, Purposeful Universe around us. It contains an answer to all the needs of man. For the lungs there is air, for the eyes, there is light, for the ears there is sound, for the brain there are thoughts to think, the list is endless.. everything around us has a purposeful design which points to a Highly Intelligent Creator of the Universe.
The human body is a marvel in itself. No other human is capable of creating a human body with life in it. No human is capable of creating such a vast Universe.
The Universe is a Miracle around us which cries out loudly that it has a Highly Intelligent Creator, a Superpower that is beyond imagination.
Religions tell us that God is Omnipresent, Omniscient and Omnipotent.
Science merely proves this! It shows that the Universe extends for billions of miles in all directions, billions of tons of matter exist out there in the wilderness of space, billions of stars like our Sun and maybe billions of worlds like our earth--- and perhaps billions of religions in all the Universe taken together.
What religion had postulated on the basis of Faith, Science has proven with its instruments!!
If anything, Science is complementing religion, it can never deny the existence of God.
Albert Einstein himself had said that the most beautiful feeling we can experience is the power of the mystical, that something sublime exists which is beyond our comprehension, and that feeling is at the center of true religiousness.
Science is decorating the world of God , giving greater comfort to mankind and making the world more beautiful, it is trying to give greater and greater happiness to man and freedom from the miseries of diseases and old age.
Religion is trying to do the same in its own way.
SCIENCE IS DECORATING THE WORLD OF GOD.
AND THE GREATEST DISCOVERY OF SCIENCE WILL ONE DAY BE GOD HIMSELF.
