ACTUAL PERSIAN VERSES OF THE FOUR QUEENS

PARABLES OF HH SHRI BHOLA NATHJI (1902-1992)

There was a king an undefeated chess player who was challenged by a Fakir, to a game. He had Four Queens, Jahaano, Hayaato, Fanaah and Dilaram.
The conditions of the game were:
If the king won, the Fakir would lose his head.
But if the Fakir won, he would take one of the Four Queens
When the king found himself losing he decided not to end the game and to give away one of his queen to the Fakir.
He went to the first one Jahaano, which means "the world". But the queen said this verse to him:
"Tu baadshaahe jahani, jahaan ra za dast ma deh
Ke Baadshaahe jahaani ra jahaan kaar aayad"

"Thou art the king of the world, give away not thy world,
For the world must be of worth to the king of the world"
So the king went to give away the second queen Hayaato, "life", and the second queen said to him:
"Tu Baadshaahe jahaani, hayaat ra za dast ma deh
Ke dar hayaat na baashad, jahaan cheh kaar aayad"

"Thou art the king of the world, give away not thy life,
For if there be no life, of what use thy world!"
The King then went to the third queen Fanaah to give her away. Fanaah means "death".
And Fanaah said to him:
"Jahaano, hayaato, hamaa ra fanaah!
Fanaah raa nigaah kun ke aakhir fanaah!"

"Thy world, thy life both belong to me,
Look to death, for in the end it must be me!"
The king then went to Dilaram, "peace of mind" to give her away and Dilaram looked at the chess-board and said:
"Ai Baadshaah! Do rukh ba deh, dilaram ra ma deh,
Peelo, pyaadaa, pesh kun, va asp kisht maat"

"O King! Give up the two castles, but give up not Dilaram,
Move the bishop and the pawn and check and mate!"
And the king did what Dilaram had said, and won the game!
The Fakir said: "O King! It was not you who won, but Dilaram! Victory goes to her and I get to keep my head! I had come to teach you an important lesson in life that more important than thy world and thy life is thy peace of mind. Lose everything if you must but never lose your peace of mind, it will give you a victory over everything.."
