While we are in our bodies on the planet earth we shall naturally feel the need for many things, whether this need be great or small. Therefore we must choose a method of living in this world which allows us to retain our peace of mind.
A child is engrossed in playing with his toys. The Mother calls out:
“Son! Come here immediately!”
But the child refuses saying: “I cannot come. I am playing with my toys!”
The toy of the mother was her child and she too wished to play with him, but seeing her child enjoying himself with the toys she stopped calling him and let the child play.
Just then one of the toys fell and broke. On the other side there was an ant that came and bit him and a bee that came buzzing around him and sat on his ear. It was hard enough getting new toys, but he was faced with more difficult problems now—the ant bite and the bee. The child could not bear this any longer and began to cry loudly with fear:
“Maa! Maa!”
The mother left everything in a state of panic and came rushing to the child. She saw the broken toy and the ant bite and the bee on the child’s ear, and she saw the helplessness of the child against these odds.
The mother comes to the child almost immediately and gets rid of the bee and gets a new toy for the child. The child is so touched that he goes and sits in the lap of his mother and begins to show his love for her.
And after a while the mother leaves the child with his toys and wishes to go elsewhere to attend to her work. But the child refuses to let her go.
The mother asks the child why he is not letting her go and he says:
“I am no longer an ignorant child. I have grown up. I have understood that when I leave you and play with my toys then I fall into all kinds of difficulties.
"But if I keep you with myself and then play with my toys then every trouble that comes upon me goes away because of your presence. Therefore if you want me to play with my toys then please sit with me!
“And if you do not wish to sit by my side then I am not prepared to play with my toys. I can only surmount my difficulties when you are with me. And I can only fearlessly play with my toys when you are close to me. Also tell me, that if the toys break, what other mother is there, who will bring new toys for me? Hence I can only play joyfully and fearlessly when you are with me!”
Too agar meraa bane to saaraa jahaan meraa hai phir,
Too agar mera naheen to phir koyi meraa naheen
If Thou are mine, then the whole world belongs to me,
But if Thou are not mine then no one is mine
This is the voice of man saying to God.
"When I look towards Thee I am freed of all fears, but when I forget Thee then all the fears of the world surround me. When Thou art with me the entire forces of Nature are with me, and when Thou art not with me then even I become of no use for myself."
