MILITARY MARCHES - LEFT RIGHT, LEFT RIGHT

MILITARY MARCHES - LEFT RIGHT, LEFT RIGHT

"Left-Right-Left-Right ..halt! Ten Hunt! Eyes Right! Stand Easy!"

And there you have columns of men in uniform marching down the road, rifles on their shoulders, their arms swinging and their legs kicking up and down in wide jerky movements. And all together in perfect unison appearing as "live blocks" of men marching together.

I have often wondered why
this is done by the armies of the world.
Is this the way they go to fight a war? Is this what is called the "training" for the war?

War scenes in the movies appear very different- men hiding in trenches, dodging bullets and bombs and shells and running back and forth wildly. They hardly seem to be marching together swinging their arms and legs in unison and saying: "Left-Right-Left-Right.."

So what was that "Left Right" all about?

Discipline!

It is the kind of discipline that frightens me. Men walking together like so many robots at the master command of the sergeants.

It is the kind of discipline and marching together that is the food of all the dictators in the world. How they would like people to snap to their commands, march together in unison at their orders -- obey them blindly, right or wrong.

It is the kind of discipline which also enters religion and makes it frightening for me. Soldiers for God marching through the world together and daring anyone to come in their way, especially the
atheists and agnostics of the world.

Politics and Religion become dangerous when they are regimentalised into marching legions of men.

As people go more and more towards materialism and the advance of the computers - we can visualise armies of these "materialists" marching through the streets in contrast to the religionists, all saying
"Left Right Left Right!" together.

Legions of people with mobile phones held to their ears walking together saying "Left Right".

People marching together calling for fellowship and brotherhood marching down the street saying "left right" are no less frightening.

You better love one another or else!!

As a matter of fact anyone marching down the street and saying "Left Right" becomes frightening.

In the days past people walking down the road with British Solar Hats and knickerbockers saying "Left Right" were often found to be inmates who had escaped from lunatic asylums.

And the all important question comes to my mind - - Why cant they say "Right Left" instead of "Left Right"? What's so special about Left, anyway! Right?
