No Fear, No Pain

NO FEAR, NO PAIN

POETRY BY HH SHRI BHOLA NATHJI (1902-1992) SUNG BY PRIYA NATH MEHTA

No fear no pain,

To bind no chain,

No doer no done

When all is one,

No earth no sky

In self I lie,

No wing to fly

But out of sky,

I wingless fly,

I fly in “I”

No me no mine,

Lo! All is Thine!

Nay, all is Thee –

In Thee my “me”

CONTROL YOUR ANGER AFTER BETRAYAL

May 25

Thoughts of HH Shri Bhola Nathji ( 1910-1992) Founder of the World Prayer Day for Peace
-----------------------------

One day you discover that someone you had dearly loved betrays you or ignores you, after years of being together.

You find yourself filled with bitterness. This soon gives way to rage, and you want to say something nasty and angry to the person. You also know that after you have vented your wrath on him he will walk away forever from your life.

Here is the best formula to control your anger at such times -- IT ALWAYS WORKS, SO TRY IT WHENEVER YOU NEED IT!!

For a moment just stop your anger and look backwards in time.
Think of the many happy moments you have spent together with the person; think of the many good things he did for you in life, think of all his past kindnesses, in fact even one great kind act, think of how he helped you when you needed help..

By the time you finish recalling all these memories of his past goodness towards you -- you will discover that your present anger at his betrayal simply disappears.

He comes before you, and you embrace him with love. A friendship or a relationship is saved!!!

THOUGHTS FOR PEACE OF MIND FROM HH SHRI BHOLA NATHJI (1902-1992)

May 21

"O, Man! Seekest thou to know the existence of Him above?
Filled with doubts and fears, blinded art thou. Search for Him, not elsewhere, but in thyself. Turn thy thoughts inwards and ask of thy heart, who it was that filled thy life with success after success, when of success there was no chance?

There were some that thou had power over, and these can attribute to thy strength. But what of the moments when despair heaped upon misery and no ray of hope was seen – and even then, as if by chance, were granted thou a route that led to Light?
If it were He, then why did He, and how did He?

“Twas His Grace, His mercy. When He saw thee labour hard, when He saw thy efforts fail. He stepped upon thy sorrow and showed thee the path.

Lucky is the man who, having failed in his own efforts, sees in the Success that comes, the Face of the Almighty."

THE DESIRE FOR HAPPINESS

May 20

By HH Shri Bhola Nathji ( 1902-1992) Founder of the word prayer day for peace

"The desire for happiness exists in thy heart.
Thou didst not ask for it from someone else.
It has accompanied the other desires of thy life.
Every unfulfilled desire gives pain.
Where in Life can peace be found if there be no joy.

Joy leaves thee when thou seest a separation between the flower and the thorn; when thou seest night and day as two; when one becomes dear and the other hateful.

How great a joy can be attained by separating thyself from sorrow and happiness that belongs to the world! Let thy sight fall upon the calm ocean and then upon the storms of the ocean but let it not be drowned in either.

Merge not thyself into this ocean of sorrows and joys. Lose not thy existence for its sake. Derive joy by removing thyself from this ocean.

Look upon the dear and the hateful as the actors and objects portrayed on the screen of a cinema hall. They have no true existence. They are not where they appear to be and staying a while in appearances they must vanish forever.

Look! Yonder flower doth bloom in joy!
Ah! But what then?
Look! Yonder drop of dew disappears from the petal in a wisp of smoke!
Ah! But what then?

MAY 18, 1926 A DAY OF DIVINE PROPHECY FOR MY GRANDFATHER

May 18

My grandfather (1867-1940) whose name was Devi Das Mehta, was a millionaire who had given away all his wealth to the poor and had taken to the spiritual path to help people through his love and benedictions. Multitudes thronged to him to secure peace of mind and for an alleviation of their ills and sorrows. He could not bear to see the misery of the world. And would often say:

"I cannot be content with my own salvation for as long as even one person is in bondage."

He appeared to be in direct communication with God and could easily have declared himself a great prophet, so great was the respect that people had for him. But he chose a life of humility and solitude and did not proselytize or allow proselytisation. He chose to live silently and humbly in the world, giving peace and love to people, and left the world with the same degree of silence.

May 18, 1926 was a very special day in the life of my grandfather. He was in Tehsilpur , District Amritsar in the Punjab.

It was a day when he heard a Voice from the heavens speak to him directly, and tell him that the Face of God upon earth was that of Love and Peace and also that of a Servant of the Earth depite being its Master. And that the personality in whom God had chosen to reveal himself was that of Shri Nathji, who called himself the servant of the earth but in whom was manifested the emperor of the world, God, in the fulness of his Glory.

That all who believed in Him, from the lowliest of beings to the greatest of kings, would receive salvation in life as well as in death.

Shri Devi Das penned the prophecy down in the Urdu language as the words from heaven came down to his ears. The prophecy in the Urdu language is shown in this picture between his portrait and that of Shri Nathji.

In the prophecy he writes with striking humility and honesty:

"If I should prove unfaithful,
then seek thou one more faithful than I."
____________________

My grandfather fully believed in the spiritual philosophy that every man upon the planet earth has God within himself and is already a walking image of God. But there are some personalities in whom God is openly manifested, and these personalities are especially chosen by God and can be called incarnations of God upon earth- those who reveal God through the purity of their hearts and their universal love and compassion for humanity and who live and die only for the sake of the humanity around them.People who come to them experience God in them spontaneously.

The words of Devi Das Mehta of May 18, 1926, set down on paper in his own handwriting, are all that are left of this great revelation given to him. I have tried to give a very brief and incomplete translation above.

My grandfather did not subscribe to any organised religion of the world, but in fact loved and respected the goodness in them all.

He desired neither name nor fame nor followers, but was beyond all desires of the world and would say:

"I am convinced there is no condition higher than that silence which comes of the abandonment of all latent desires."

He was absorbed directly in God all the time, He gave freely of himself and his love and compassion to the humanity around him . His religion was that of Love and Peace and Service of mankind. It was a Faith that he held on to, right up to the end.

THE WOUNDED HAND IN THE SILKEN CLOTH

May 17
Thoughts of HH Shri Bhola Nathji, (1902-1992) founder of the World Prayer Day for Peace

"There is a wound in the hand. The hand is wrapped in a silken cloth. The hand with the beautiful cloth is good to look at from the outside.
Within it there is a burning hell. The lookers-on do praise the finery that surrounds the hand. He, whose hand it is, holds back his tears in an effort to conceal his misery.

Is not the naked hand that has no wound and no cloth far better than this one? He, whose hand this is, knows no pain and sorrow.

So it is with the mind that knows no rest. It is like the wounded hand, for though surrounded it may be with all the pleasures of the world, internally there is no joy."

THE ROSE AND THE THORN

May 13

Thoughts of my father, HH Shri Bhola Nathji (1902-1992) The founder of the World Prayer Day for peace.

The Rose and the Thorn

Deprived of the fragrance of softness of the Rose, the thorn in jealousy pricked the Rose maliciously. The Rose bled, and these drops carried with them the fragrance of the Rose. Drop by drop they fell upon the malignant thorn below. A petal of the Rose fell gently and was impaled on the thorn. The thorn was filled with fragrance and with the colour of the Rose. It was filled, too, with intense surprise.

“O, flower of the garden! In hatred and jealously I did hurt thee! I wished to do thee harm! But what is this that mine eyes behold? Thou hast filled me with thy fragrance. Thou hast showered upon me the coolness of thy blood. Thou hast sheltered me with thy soft petals. Is this thy revenge? If so, can ever revenge be so strange? Why didst thou not burn me in the flame of thy wrath?”

The flower replied:
“What thou hadst, thou gavest me.
What I had, I gavest thee in return.”

Whereupon the thorn was filled with remorse and said:

“I shall look upon thee, O Rose, as a thing ever so beautiful, but I shall look upon thee always from a distance, lest my ugliness hurt thee again! Never shall I sin again in hurting thee!”

The thorn, too, became a flower.
Goodness given in return for evil converts the evil to good.

HE IS LISTENING ALL THE TIME

May 11

Even after an ant has burrowed deep into the earth, He can hear its footsteps, far more clearly than the beating of drums. The very sound that the ant is unaware of, is audible to Him.

When you can hear your own mind speak to you – a mind that speaks only with thoughts and ideas but has no audible voice – then why cannot He, Who gave you the mind, hear you call out to Him in prayer?

He exists before all your thoughts and wisdom.

He exists after all your thoughts and wisdom.

It is for you to fearlessly open your heart before Him and lay all your troubles before Him.

He will hear your voice, and he will answer your prayers.

May 2

DUE TO YOUR GREAT LOVE AND AFFECTION, PRAYERS AND GOOD WISHES, I AM BACK ON FACEBOOK, EVEN THOUGH I AM UP HERE IN THE HIMALAYAN MOUNTAINS WITH AN INTERNET SPEED THAT CRAWLS AND A COMPUTER THAT WOBBLES.

I HAVE MISSED YOU AND HAVE NOT HAD THE TIME TO THANK EACH FRIEND PERSONALLY. BUT PLEASE ACCEPT THIS TOKEN OF MY GRATITUDE FROM THE POPULAR SONG WHICH USED TO BE SUNG YEARS AGO:

"FOR JUST A LITTLE OF YOUR AFFECTION
SENT IN MY DIRECTION,
AND A BIT OF A TENDERNESS,
I'LL GIVE YOU BARRELS AND BARRELS OF ROSES,
TONS OF TONS OF SUNSHINE
AND HOURS AND HOURS OF HAPPINESS!"

HERE IN THE SOLITUDE OF THE HIMALAYAS, WHERE THE CROWDS AND TRAFFIC OF THE CITY ARE MISSING, I SHALL BE THINKING OF ALL OF YOU, AND SENDING YOU MY LOVE AND AFFECTION, PRAYERS AND GOOD WISHES AND ALL THE BLESSINGS THAT LIFE CAN BRING!

THANK YOU ONCE AGAIN DEAR FRIENDS FOR THINKING OF ME!!

A FAREWELL TO FACEBOOK FRIENDS

April 23

As I write this the famous words of Jamaica Farewell come to my mind with a certain degree of sadness:

"But I'm sad to say, I'm on my way
And I wont be back for many a day,
My heart is down and my head is turning around
As I leave my friends on Facebook Town.."

Dear Friends I am heading for my home in the Himalayan Mountains where I shall be for several months, and where the internet will have to be connected and the computer thumped and cajoled into working again, so I may not be in communication for a while.

But I remember the words of the brave American General MacArthur who said in the Far East when leaving : "I shall return!"

I dont think he did. But I may be wrong, maybe he did.

But then I am not MacArthur and I will return.

But I seek something from you as I say farewell -- I seek your love and prayers and good wishes which will go with me and bring me back. My love and prayers and good wishes will remain with you.

Most of all my Father is watching over all of us and since He is All Love He shall certainly bring us all together again....

I shall miss you till then..

Your friend,
Priya

HOW TO SEE GOD

April 17

Thoughts of HH Shri Bhola Nathji (1902-1992) founder of the world prayer day for peace.

You have not seen God; this is what you say; but you have seen truth, love, and mercy. You love yourself; you love your children; you love your relatives. It is in your nature to love yourself. You have not created this love. You need no proof to show that this love actually exists.

As long as there is a soul in you, you will feel this love. It is with you, forever. This love is free from death and decay. It brings joy. There is some reflection of the Infinite in this love.

You do burn this lamp of love within the four walls of your room and say that the light is little. Take it into that vast field where it may spread to all corners of the earth.

This light can spread, but at the same time it may be forced to remain in a small space. Keep not this light of love within the “I” that is yours. Recognize this light in the whole world; smother not this light, but let it grow to infinity. Infinite Love is God.Photo: HOW TO SEE GOD

THE REWARD OF A HEART THAT IS PURE

April 14

Thoughts of HH Shri Bhola Nathji (1902-1992) Founder of the World Prayer Day for Peace.

A clean mirror gives a good image. The pure heart reflects the Divinity of God; for even though He is everywhere at all times, He is always on the search for the pure heart that will reflect His Divinity even as a clean mirror provides a good image.

He cannot be seen by the naked eyes; He cannot be revealed by Science or Philosophy; He is found, neither in the mountains nor in the depths of the oceans. He is found reflected in the clean mirror of a pure heart.

Such a heart must not be torn by desire and hatred nor must it be besmirched by the dirt of this world; it must be free of pride.
It must be so pure as to attract the Creator and make Him look into it again and again and thereby adopt it as His own, and decorate it by His reflection.

Such a heart gains from the Lord the greatest gift that the Lord can give – the Lord Himself.

It is only the spotlessly white that may be coloured to perfection.

"HE WEEPS, O HOW HE WEEPS FOR THEE!!"

April 11

Thoughts of HH Shri Bhola Nathji (1902-1992)
(Founder of the World Prayer Day for Peace)

Thou hast seen the desires of this world and the sorrows and joys that are its companions.

Turn now towards Him, Who stays awake for thee day and night.
The Stars that twinkle in the skies are His glimmering tears shed for His love for thee. The tremulous ocean is His sorrowful Heart.

The waxing and the waning of the moon, His hopes and despairs for thee.

The fire of separation that consumes Him is revealed in the fire of the Sun.

In the morning, when thou seest the shiny drops of dew on the petals of a flower, think of them as another form of His tears, shed for thee.

He weeps! O, How He weeps for thee!

Rivers carry away the water from His eyes. He awaits thee, and His vigil is as the vigil of the lonely Himalayas. The mighty peaks soar upwards in search of thee. He awaits thee, and burns in the fire of this separation.

Learn to love Him, If He doth burn like the flame, then do you burn in Him, like the moth.

JUDGE NOT LEST YE BE JUDGED
Mathew 7:1- (King James Version)

My Father, HH Shri Bhola Nathji (1902-1992) the Founder of the World Prayer Day for Peace, often quoted from the Holy Books of all faiths and it was from his words that I learnt about the Holy Books, being a Harvard Scientist and Nuclear Physicist at that, and reading books only on Nuclear Reactions!!!

He also narrated many parables of old which illustrated the precepts of the scriptures.

The story about Jesus Christ that impressed me the most was his attitude towards so called "fallen women".

Despite the fact that the ancient scriptures attributed all evil to women through the temptation of Eve by the Serpent, Satan, with the apple, Jesus Christ had a view of his own.

One such fallen woman was being stoned to death in the market place by a mob and it was allowed under their law as a standard punishment.

Just then Jesus Christ appeared on the scene and stood in front of the woman and warned the crowd with words of authority and divine power:

"Stop! He who be without sin, let him cast the first stone!!"

All the people gathered there were overawed by the personality of Jesus Christ and his words that carried Divine Authority, -- and dropped their stones and shamefacedly walked away.

Yes, here it was:

"Judge not, lest ye be judged!"

But how many follow this? We all sit upon judgement on others accusing them of various shortcomings not being aware of our own!! No one has the right to judge another. Only God has the right to judge since it is He who is inside the heart of every person and knows what that person really is.

Here was a Urdu Verse that my Father had made on this situation:

"Na thhee haal ki hamen jab apni khabar
Rahe dekhte auron ke aibo hunar
Parri apni buraayiyon pe joon hi nazar
To nigaah men koyi buraa na rahaa"

"When we had not knowledge of what was within us,
We kept on pointing out the faults of others,
But the moment our sight fell on our own sins,
We discovered there was no fault in anyone else"

Once my father was giving a sermon to some learned judges who had come to listen to him and he told them:

"Remember above the smaller courts there is the High Court, above the High Court there is the Supreme Court, -- but above the Supreme Courts of the world there is another court where all shall be held accountable, The Divine Court! So be careful with your judgements lest you condemn an innocent man, for there is another Court where you too can be found at fault! If you wish for Mercy in that Court then temper your judgements here with Mercy too!"

HE IS WORRYING ABOUT YOU

April 8

Thoughts of HH Shri Bhola Nathji (1902-1992) Founder of the World Prayer Day for Peace.

You worry about your food. You worry about your clothes. You worry about the insurmountable difficulties placed in your way.

Such worrying is not to your credit. It shows you distrust His Power – He, who has given you everything, without your asking, and without a word being said from your side.

Even before you were born, He created the World for you.

Who did you ask for this World?

The answer to all your needs is seen exhibited everywhere in Nature.

Yes, even when you are asleep – He is awake. He is always Awake.
Yet, you sleep, and sometime even in wakefulness do you slumber in your heart and forget His great Power.

But, He, who runs the clock of this Universe, cannot afford to sleep for even the fraction of a second, because if He slumbered there would be destruction everywhere.

He keeps awake and seeks to awaken others to tell them that He, in whose world they are living, is looking after them, and is forming the answers to even the questions that they have not thought of.

What does a Gift Mean?

April 6
What does a Gift Mean?
by
Priya Nath Mehta

1. It means that someone loves you and this is a token of his/her Love.

2. It can also mean that it is your birthday or a festive occasion like
Christmas or Diwali.

3.And it can also mean that it is an act of repentance for the past and the
person is trying to make amends and be friendly now, which is why he or she
went to all the trouble to go to the market and choose and select something
you might like.

4.And if the person did this when he/she was weak and freshly out of a
hospital it means that he/she has love, repentance and a desire to be
friends again or is making an appeal to be so, through the gift.

Remember no person is wholly good or wholly bad. So do not sit in judgement just because he/she did something which hurt you.

So never refuse a gift even from someone you do not like. Remember that
there is always some goodness even in the worst of people and also some
repentance for one's past.

A Gift is a very precious thing. In fact this entire world was a Gift given
to man by God and when he sends good things to you in life these are also
acts of generosity for all the ills you may have suffered in God's world.

And when he sends you bad things in life these are also for the betterment of your soul, for it is only through suffering that the human soul understands the real meaning of life and comes closer to God.

WHO IS GREAT?

April 5

Memoirs of HH Shri Bhola Nathji (1902-1992) Founder of the World Prayer Day for Peace.

A person who desires greatness is proving that he is not great. The person who is truly great is one who does not desire greatness.

One day I was standing on the roof of a house and some people passed by below on the street. They looked up and saw me, whilst I looked down and saw them.
We met again the next day and they said to me,

“It is a proof of your greatness that you stood on a level higher than ours. We, as lesser beings, were on a lower plane.”

I smiled and said to them:

“What you call my greatness is nothing but a reflection of your own. Though it is true that I stood on a level higher than yours, yet mine eyes were cast downwards whilst yours were turned upwards.”

THE DAWN OF FAITH

April 1
Thoughts of HH Shri Bhola Nathji (1902-1992) the Founder of the World Prayer Day for Peace.

There are many situations in life where Faith begins to be revealed to man.

The first stage is that in which man believes God exists, but wonders where He is, wonders what kind of a Being He is, wonders what His nature is like, and sometimes even wonders whether He exists or not.

He wonders that even if God exists, whether He will listen to his prayers or not, he wonders whether God will come to help him or not. Man asks himself:

“If I leave everything to Him, I wonder whether He will help me or not!”

The first stage is that of complete darkness and faithlessness. We cannot even call it a stage of faithlessness, because it did not come in contrast to a stage of faith. Man goes on living an ordinary mundane existence.

"Eat, Drink, and be Merry!" is his goal in life.

He believes he is in the world to derive as much happiness as he can, and he wishes to gather together as many material possessions as he can, in order to live in peace, regardless of whether he can get any peace from them or not.

He wishes to make himself as great as possible, as successful as possible, in the world, so that he can get over the lower states of life and live a life of happiness.

For as long as he sees success coming his way he remains very happy, but when the waves of the world carry him away in a storm of sorrow, and he can find no solace from any source, then he feels the need for help to save him from his troubles.

In search of help he runs from one person to another. He employs various means to escape the troubles that surround him. When he cannot escape from his misery and he cannot avoid it try as he may, then he looks for Someone to come and help him, one who will be unique and powerful enough.

And in such a state he lowers his head, drowned in the depths of sorrow and helplessness, and looks for that Pearl in the midst of storms which will remove the fear and restlessness of his heart.

At such a time the voice of religion rings out in his ears:

“Do not despair! There is surely Someone who will save you from your troubles!”

If this were not the case then either there would have been no troubles at all or else man would have had the strength to free himself from their bondage.

Therefore, O despairing man! Do not be afraid. Your protector is also present in this world, who will take you out of the well of misery.

Connect yourself to Him. Start believing in Him.
Pray to Him. And have faith that one day your troubles will cease!

WHAT IS LIFE?

March 30
Memoirs of HH Shri Bhola Nathji (1902-1992) The founder of the World Prayer Day for peace.

A philosospher-poet was asked this question, and the question and answer are given in this Persian Verse:

"Cheest duniyaa sar ba sar purseedam az farzaanaye
Guft: Yaaa khaab ast, yaa baad ast yaa afsaanaye"

"What is this world in reality was asked of a wiseman,
Reply: it was like a dream, or like the passing wind, or a story that came to an end."

What is LIfe? It is that which must go.
And what is Death? It is that which must come.

Each and every moment of life that comes before us, comes only to go away, never to return. The future turns into the present and the present turns into the past. And in the end the entire picture of life is that of the past!! We live in that one moment only, which we call the "present" which goes no sooner than it comes.

We live on one breath at a time, we cannot take two breaths at the same time!! And that one breath vanishes the moment it comes. Finally there is the day when the last breath comes and we are no more in this world.

It is for us to decide which is more important - that which is going away or that which is about to come! A guest is about to leave, and another guest about to come. We must make preparations for the guest to come.

If only man were to realise that this life is something that is going away rapidly, his mind would be relatively free of worries. All the joys and sorrows, all the material objects, all the friends and foes are all companions for a few days only.

This life is like a journey in a train. We get inside the compartment and find some people ahead of us. These are our parents. Our journey of life begins. As the train moves on more people get inside the compartment. These are the new relationships we form in life. And then as the train continues its journey non-stop and relentlessly we discover something which is altogether heart-breaking.

Some of our companions get off in our presence while we get off in the presence of others. This is life and death.

The sad thing is that we think of the journey as our home, and we do not know where are real home is.

If we were to know that the home is very beautiful, then even if the train and journey were uncomfortable we would not be worried too much because the thought of our beautiful destination would fill us with happiness and comfort.

But if the journey were very comfortable, but the home, the destination was going to be bad, then the joy of the comforts of the journey would become meaningless.

How wonderful if we could spend the time with the companions of our journey with Love knowing that we were all going to part from each other one day. Of what use quarreling with those who are going to depart from us? Why not let them take a good impression about us before they go.

You are living in a hotel, and the man in the room above yours drops water from his window so that it bothers you. You go to complain to the manager, and find out that the man is leaving in the evening. All at once your anger subsides. Of what use complaining about someone who is going away in any case?

When you travel in a train on a journey, you think of the smallest number of things you can take with you, not the entire house, as that would make the journey miserable.

So it is with the journey of life--if you can keep yourself content with the least amount of material possessions and ambitions it will only add to your happiness and to your Love for everyone and make your journey simple and comfortable.

NO DIFFERENCE BETWEEN SORROW AND JOY

THOUGHTS OF HH SHRI BHOLA NATHJI (1902-1992) FOUNDER OF THE WORLD PRAYER DAY FOR PEACE.

" What is the difference between Sorrow and Joy? There is really no great difference between them. They are alike in what they give and take.

Sorrow brings misery to man, but gives joy on leaving. What, then, do you desire? Joy? Joy gives sorrow when it leaves. Do you hate sorrow?

Ah! But it leaves behind joy when it goes.

And thus joy goes even as it came, leaving behind sorrow!
Desire nothing, if you would be free of this vicious circle.
Look upon everything as another act of the Universal Drama being enacted before you.

The dark and threatening scenes have come merely to captivate your interest, and so have the scenes of beauty.

Always keep in your heart the thought of the Supreme Creator, and look upon everything as a work of His Art.

"HAVING LOST EVERYTHING THAT WE LOVED, OF WHAT USE COMING TO OUR SENSES NOW"

"HAVING LOST EVERYTHING THAT WE LOVED,
OF WHAT USE COMING TO OUR SENSES NOW"

Here is a sad Hindi Film Song that in fact depicts the reality of life, where man loses his love, his dignity and honor, all for the greed of wealth-- and by the time he comes to his senses it is too late and he has lost all that he had, never to regain it!

Here are two of its verses of pathos:

"The Spring came bringing its flowers
But alas, we did not even a cast a glance at them."

"We set fire to our own home
And then stood by watching like bystanders."

THE MUSIC OF THE SOUL- A MESSAGE TO ALL MUSICIANS

March 22
From the memoirs of HH Shri Bhola Nathji (1902-1992) the Founder of the World Prayer Day for peace.

"The notes of music lie asleep within the strings of a sitar.
The strings, that stretch from one end of the board to the other, have within them a sweet, sonorous melody that lies unawakened.

The strings are silent, and they wait in the hope of hearing the song that will once again set them vibrating with joy. They look to someone else for music, though they have within them what they seek!

Their yearning, expressed in their silence, bursts forth into an intense desire that beckons a musician. He comes.

He lifts the sitar, picks up the ‘mizraab’, to pluck the strings with, and, then, placing his fingers on the strings, sets the air ringing with the strings of a beautiful, haunting refrain.

The strings feel again the joy of their souls but do not know from whence the melody comes.

The musician lifts up his fingers. The song is at an end. The notes die out in the emptiness of air and the musician’s voice is heard.

“It is you in whom this wondrous music lies. Someone was needed to bring to an end your silence, and to bring out from within you that music which lay concealed; and to recreate it before you, even as the wind reveals to the ocean its own form as the waves, and the reflection of a mirror reveals to the viewer his own face.”

HH SHRI NATHJI AND KHUSHWANT SINGH AVOWED AGNOSTIC

March 20
I am sharing this post which I wrote on my page HH Shri Nathji, my father.
Memoirs of HH Shri Bhola Nathji (1902-1992) The Founder of the World Prayer Day for Peace.

The personality of HH Shri Nathji was Divine in more ways than one. Not only did he possess a startling beauty that could only have been described as divine, as perhaps the handsomest man in the history of the world, but there was a divine light that shone from his Face all the time, which became very intense whenever any genuine seeker after Truth came before him. His overpowering Love overwhelmed all who came to him so that tears came to their eyes, which were tears of love as if they had met their nearest and dearest loved one.

But the most astonishing thing was that HH Shri Nathji did not have to convince people of the existence of God through words and sermons. People who truly sought God found God in HH Shri Nathji in an instant.

It was one of his greatest miracles that avowed atheists and agnostics found the God they had been denying all their lives in him. But they could understand only that much about him as he chose to reveal to them.

Khushwant Singh was an intellectual par excellence, the author of over 80 books and winner of many an international award for his writings. He understood religion better than most believers and had studied them all. Yet, his studies had led his philosophical mind to conclude that there was no God and he had turned into a self-proclaimed agnostic.

But HH Shri Bhola Nathji would always say about him:
"He is a man with a very pure and righteous heart! I would love to meet him!"

A follower of HH Shri Nathji, Vijay Kapahi, met Khushwant Singh and asked him to meet HH Shri Nathji.

Khushwant Singh said to Kapahi: "I will be wasting his time as well as my own. I do not believe in God or holy men. I have visited many but they have nothing to offer me which I already do not know!"

Kapahi somehow persuaded Khushwant Singh to meet HH Shri Nathji. It was a fateful day in June 1988 when Khushwant Singh came to meet HH Shri Nathji at his modest sized bungalow in New Delhi.

HH Shri Nathjii was reclining on pillows in bed, engrossed in writing
Urdu Poetry.

HH Shri Nathji's son, Priya Nath Mehta a Harvard educated nuclear physicist, escorted Khushwant Singh into HH Shri Nathji's room.

He pulled the curtain of the door to one side and announced the arrival of Khushwant Singh to HH Shri Nathji.

HH Shri Nathji looked up from his poetry book at Khushwant Singh
and said in a powerful voice in Persian Verse

"Be-hijaabaaanaa daraa az dare kaashaanaye maa
Ke kase nest vajuz darde to dar khaanaye maa"

"Enter thou within these doors without hesitation,
For here there is only a pain in my heart for you!"

Suddenly something happened to Khushwant Singh. He rushed forward towards HH Shri Nathji and fell at his feet, weeping!!! He broke down.

He felt as if this was his tryst with destiny.

On the 2nd of July 1988 there was an article by Khushwant Singh in one of the leading newspapers of the country, "The Hindustan Times"
which had a picture of HH Shri Bhola Nathji at the top, with the words
"GOD INCARNATE" written on top.

Today I remember the Love of HH Shri Bhola Nathji for Khushwant Singh and also the love of Khushwant Singh for him.

In later years when I mailed a picture of HH Shri Bhola Nathji to him, he wrote to me and said:

"Whenever I feel sad or depressed, I turn to this picture for solace!"

News has come over all the major television and newspapers that today on the 20th of March 2014, Khushwant Singh passed away very peacefully at the age of 99 in his home.

He had once asked me "What comes after death?"

And I had written to him: 'You will meet HH Shri Bhola Nathji there who will embrace you in his arms with love, as he had done when you came to his home upon earth!"

Of a certainty Khushwant Singh is in heaven. It is a great loss to the country and indeed to the whole world that such a great intellectual and writer and thinker and righteous man has left the world.

HH Shri Bhola Nathjii had already left his physical frame on the 6th of September 1992.

Holi Ghazal - Color of Love

HOLI GHAZAL - THE SONG OF THE FESTIVAL OF COLORS

by HH SHRI BHOLA NATHJI ( 1902-1992) THE FOUNDER OF THE WORLD PRAYER FOR PEACE

Tomorrow, March 17th, 2014, the whole of India celebrates Holi - the festival of colors-- where people douse all kinds of colours on each other, in a spirit of fraternity and love and joy. The colours may be dry powders of wet.

HH Shri Bhola Nathji, my father, wrote over 30,000 Urdu Ghazals -- poems to be sung as songs--during the ages of 80 and 90 over a period of severe illnesses. It was his Divine Power that he was experiencing Bliss and Joy even during this period of physical suffering.

His poems carry Divine Aurhority. This particular Holi Ghazal appeares to have been written by God Himself, where God visualizes how his cup of colours tipped over and doused the world with all the colors that exist in the world. It is beyond the imagination of an ordinary human poet.

The Ghazal also says that this life is temporary, and therefore let us all get together and celebrate it in Love Divine.

The English subtitles explain the meaning of the verses as I sing it at home

DO NOT WORRY ABOUT YOURSELF

March 10
Memoirs of HH Shri Bhola Nathji ( 1902-1992) Founder of the World Prayer Day for Peace.

You worry about your food. You worry
about your clothes. You worry about the
insurmountable difficulties placed in your
way.

Such worrying is not to your credit. It shows
you distrust His Power – He, who has given
you everything, without your asking, and
without a word being said from your side.

Even before you were born, He created the
World for you.

Whom did you ask for this World?

The answer to all your needs is seen
exhibited everywhere in Nature.

Yes, even when you are asleep – He is
awake. He is always Awake.
Yet, you sleep, and sometime even in
wakefulness do you slumber in your heart
and forget His great Power.

But, He, who runs the clock of this
Universe, cannot afford to sleep for even the
fraction of a second, because if He
slumbered there would be destruction
everywhere.

He keeps awake and seeks to awaken others
to tell them that He, in whose world they are
living, is looking after them, and is forming
the answers to even the questions that they
have not thought of.

PARABLES OF HH SHRI BHOLA NATHJI (1902-1992) THE FOUNDER OF THE WORLD PRAYER DAY FOR PEACE

March 8
"GOD IS NOWHERE"

As so often happens, when too much happiness and prosperity comes to man he has a tendency to forget about God altogether.

There was a wealthy man with status and power who had everything that he wanted in life.

His motto in life had become: "GOD IS NOWHERE!"

He was like a man without any thirst for whom water was meaningless. "What need of God do I have? I have everything that I want in life!"

One day he was aboard a ship, and the ship was hit by a terrible storm that made the ship tremble and shake as if it were about to go down.

The man in panic ran to the captain of the ship and asked him to do something.

"Don't disturb me," said the angry captain," I am doing my job!"

Next the man ran to the other passengers on the ship and asked them to do something, but they were all helpless.

In desperation he tried to hold on to rails of the ship to stop the
shaking, but to no avail.

With a shock he realised that all his wealth and status and power were of no avail, that all the happiness he possessed had vanished in an instant, that his very life had lost all meaning.

He looked up at the ocean like a madman and ordered it to stop the storm. But the ocean was lifeless. And the storm continued, becoming more and more fierce.

Then he looked up at the clouds in the skies, and suddenly he was reminded of God.

But the clouds had a strange formation that appeared to say " GOD IS NOWHERE", it was the belief he had held on to all his life.

Out of utter desperation and fear he cried out to the heavens above:

"O God! Please stop the storm! Get my ship to the shore. After that you may choose to exist or not to exist!!"

Suddenly the storm ceased and the formation of the clouds in the sky changed, and instead of forming into letters that said:
"GOD IS NOWHERE" the clouds had changed their formation to say
"GOD IS NOW HERE".

The W in NOWHERE had gone over to the NO and
the word NOWHERE had changed into NOW HERE.

So it is that at times of utter helplessness when one's own power, one's wealth and one's status and friends stand by helplessly, even the most proud and powerful of men are humbled down to their knees and cry out to God in desperation.

And at such times when Divine Aid comes to them they are convinced of the existence of God. He whose existence they had denied all their lives becomes a Reality for them.

THIS WORLD IS LIKE A POT OF HONEY

March 4
PARABLES OF HH SHRI BHOLA NATHJI (1902-1992) THE FOUNDER OF THE WORLD PRAYAR DAY FOR PEACE

Behold, there is a pot full of honey! A fly sits at its edge. Look how slowly it partakes of the honey, nibbling away at its edges. The honey is sweet, indeed, but the fly cannot eat more, for it has taken as much as it could take. Its hunger is appeased.

But alas! Its desire is yet unfulfilled, it would have more. It would possess the whole pot and keep it for its own! It plunges into the pot with the heat of its desire and is surrounded by honey.

Ah! The honey belongs to the fly now! But it is a thing of great sorrow that the fly, too, belongs to the honey, for it cannot fly away now. The honey clings to its wings and binds them strongly.
The little fly is trapped for life. It would depart but the honey sticks. How can it thing of eating now?

And clinging thus to its desire, the fly dies in it.

Take joy from the things of the world, O Man, but give up not thy joy and thy existence to them else thou be trapped like the fly!
It is not right that we give up our joy to those things from which we expect joy.

-------------------------------------------------------

There came another fly to the same pot of honey. It sought to partake of the honey but it saw within the pot a dead companion, and being afraid, it did fly away with haste without tasting of the honey.

“Oh! But what a price! What a price!” thought this, the second fly. Its life was too precious a price to pay for the momentary pleasure of the honey.

A flower must bloom but look at the numerous thorns that are ready to pierce it!

How many tempests seek to drown thee, O drop of water, before thou canst reach the ocean!

The stars must combat the formidable darkness if they are to maintain their sparking light! The moon must wax and wane before it can shower its coolness!

“Nay! The price is too terrible!” And it flew far, far away to unknown regions. Desire impelled it to partake of the honey, but fear was the stronger and did not allow it to partake of the honey.

These are the pleasures of the world! When thou seest in them the slightest amount of fear and pain thou leavest behind the petty joys of the world. The little joy fades in the light of a greater fear.

O, thou wanderer in the garden!
Thou didst leave behind the flower
Upon beholding the thorns!
----

The pot and the honey lie where they are.
Are they placed there so that no one may partake of the honey?
Nay, leave it not aside thus, even if thou wouldst not eat or drink of it like the fly that plunged into it. It is not meant to be thrown away.
Sacrifice it not.

Thy heart is afraid of the pain and death that accompany the pleasure but at the same time the sacrifice will weigh heavily upon thy conscience.

These, therefore, are the two phases. In one, the fly does not exist! In the other, the honey does not exist!

What, therefore, must thou do? The honey is meant to appease thy desire, and not to be thrown away.

There comes another fly! Ah! It alights but gently upon the brim of the pot. It sees a fly run away from the pot and it sees, too, the fly entangled in the honey.

But it seeks the middle path! Look, it runs not from the honey, neither does it plunge into it, to die.

It sits calmly at the edge and it partakes of the honey to its heart’s content. Strange but wise!

It flies off now for a while and then returns again to the brim and the edge, master of its own will and desire.
This is the path.
O, Man! Live thou in this world and do all thy works living in joy, but he not so entrapped in its beauty that thy desire separate thee from thy God and thou do plunge to thy death.

HH SHRI NATHJI'S LOVE

February 28

Memoirs of HH Shri Bhola Nathji (1902-1992) The Founder of the World Prayer Day for Peace.

"They say that my verse is sad,
It is but natural,
For it spans the eternity of sorrow,
Not mine - but man's"
-----------------------------------------------------

As angry gust of wind shook the leaves and
the flowers of a garden.

The tiny drops of dew that had lain atop the
petals dropped and slithered into the dust
and were destroyed. The flowers bent their
heads.

Some person, that saw in himself everyone
and everything, passed by the garden paths.

He saw Unity in Diversity, he believed that
all were akin to his soul. He saw what the
wind had done and his heart was rent with
anguish that gave place to tears which
slowly and silently rolled down his cheeks.

When asked why he wept, he replied, “The
wind has hurt me.”

The wind had hurt the flowers, not him, he
was told, and then he said finally:

“When the flowers were hurt. I thought it
was I and not they that had been smitten.”

THE HOLY TRINITY OF HINDUISM

February 27

It is indeed strange that no matter which corner of India you travel to and no matter which person you meet- whether an intellectual or an illiterate villager, you find one thing common in them all --- an unshakable belief in God, who they call BHAGWAN.

And this despite the complex philosophy and the large number of gods and goddesses-- like so many angels of God.

Imagine a Parliament with so many ministers and senators, senior and junior officers, -- with the President being at the Head of them all. We can think of Hinduism in this simplistic manner. The President being an analogy for Bhagwan, God who created everything and who is the one who is really worshiped.

Apparently the concept of a Universal God, Bhagwan has somehow pervaded the heart of every Indian, since thousands of years, that beyond all gods and goddesses, angels and prophets, philosophies and books there is a God who looks after him and cares for him and answers his prayers.

In the small villages and towns in faroff places in the mountains, which have practically no medical aid and people can die before they are transported to a hospital in a large city, if you meet a common villager and ask him how he manages without medical aid in serious illnesses, his reply will always be:

"Bhagwan Bharose..." - "We Depend on God alone!"

As far as the complex philosophy of Hinduism is concerned it accepts God as a Trinity- the Holy Trinity of the three forms of God. It is the same One God who appears in three forms. Like the same person appearing in three different suits! Or the same Actor appearing in three different parts of the drama.

1. God becomes Brahma when he creates = The Creator of the Universe and man
2. God become Vishnu when he preserves his Creation = the Preserver of His Creation.
3. God becomes Mahesh the inevitable face of the destruction of the Universe His Creation= when he comes as Death.

Even then all the Gods are benign and loving and innocent enough to give away anything that anyone prays for, as long as it is not unjust or improper.

Even Mahesh, the God in charge of death and destruction in the Universe, is a benign generous God ever ready to give anything to anyone who prays to him.

Mahesh is also known as Lord Shiva. Or Lord Shanker, Or Bhole Nath.

The "innocent" God, appeased very easily through simple prayers which heal the devotees of all their ailments and troubles.

Despite being the Face of God in charge of Death ad Destruction, He is the most innocent of them all and the one most easily appeased and pleased by simple prayers or righteous actions.

Today is Maha Shivratri dedicated to Lord Shiva, where millions of Hindus all over India are worshiping Lord Shiva in millions of temples dedicated to his name, seeking for various boons for themselves and their families, and receiving miraculous answers to their prayers.

Another remarkable feature of Hinduism is that they do not look upon God as a male alone, but He always has a consort, his wife with him, without whom he is incomplete.

Since the world consists of men and women both, Hinduism envisions God in the form of Male and Female both, every Face of God has his consort, his wife, who aids him in his work or is simply present as a mother figure to all the people of the world who are like erring children. And often the Mother intervenes on behalf of the devotees to make the Lord More Generous and More Merciful towards them.

Lord Shiva and his consort Parvati are believed to live on Mount Kailash in the Himalayan Mountains where they have resided since eternity and where they will reside till the end of eternity...

YOU ARE NOT ALONE

February 20

From the Thoughts of HH Shri Bhola Nathji (1902-1992) The Founder of the World Prayer Day for Peace.

"Never, for an instant, let your heart be filled
with the thought that you are alone in this
world.

Around you there is the creation of God, that
is filled with the strength of God.

It is He,who has made this wonderful House for you,
even before your coming – the House that
has for its roof the star-studded sky at night
and is filled with the golden rays of the Sun
at day; in which the winds do fan you and
the rivers do sing for you in a never ending
refrain, where the ocean heaves its mighty
bosom at the sight of you and the birds and
the leaves and the flowers do all exist – all
for you.

All these things, and more, has the Lord
made for you. And when you see them and
are pleased and do laugh, He is pleased.
He takes your laughter for a token of
gratitude, and gives you more."
