HOW TO LIVE IN THE WORLD

January 10
Memoirs of my Father, HH Shri Bhola Nathji (1902-1992) Founder of the World Prayer Day for Peace.

"A drop of water fell into a shell in the ocean.
The shell covered the drop, and, whilst the
ocean was besieged by a storm, it
maintained the security of the drop.

Thus, even though the drop of water was in
the ocean, it was, in a sense, out of it. It was
in the storm and the raging waters, but they
affected it not.

And then in a flash the mystery of life was
unfurled to it.

To live in the world, and yet be detached
from it; to see and hear and yet not be overly
afraid or attracted; to keep all things in mind
and yet have the mind far removed from
them – is like unto the drop that was inside
the shell, and saw and heard, but was free.

Eventually the drop dried up and vanished,
but in its place the shell produced a pearl."
