The Parable of the Floating Blanket

Two friends were walking by the side of a river. They say a dark black blanket floating down in the middle of the river.

"Look!" said one of the friends, "we can get that blanket for free! Someone appears to have thrown it away!"

One of the two friends jumped into the river and swam towards the river and came close to the blanket and grabbed hold of it.

Unfortunately, the blanket was not a blanket but a bear who was floating in the waters taking a bath. The bear grabbed the man , and very soon they were turning and tossing inside the waters of the river.

The other friend who stood on the shore saw this strange turn of events and called out to the man inside the river:

"O leave the blanket! Dont bother if it is hard too heavy or difficult to come out! You come out yourself!"

And the friend in the grip of the bear shouted back:

"I am trying to leave the blanket but the blanket refuses to leave me!!"

So it is with the glitter of the world and man. Man is attracted towards worldly things and worldly joys and the material pleasures they can give -- and very soon finds himself embroiled in them and entrapped by them and in great difficulty and peril.

He tries to flee from them, to give them up.

But , try as he may, he cannot leave the tentacles of the material pleasures that he had run after, on the contrary they get a hold on him and keep on making his life miserable.
