THE FLOWERS OF THE HEALTH OFFICER

January 4
From the memoirs of HH Shri Bhola Nathji(1902-1992) Founder of the World Prayer Day for Peace

Shri Nathji's life story is dotted by meetings with individuals in
episodes that are not only have a depth of spiritual meaning but
which are filled with the overwhelming love of Shri Nathji that
brought tears to the eyes of all.

Sardar Sunder Singh, was the Health
Officer in Mussoorie during those days of 1945-46.
He was a Sikh gentleman of the Sikh faith. But to Shri Nathji
all faiths had equal relevance and he could speak on any religion in
the world with equal facility and become one of them.

Sardar Sunder Singh was
greatly enamored of Shri Nathji’s illuminating
sermons on the Holy Book, the Sukhmani Sahib of
the Sikhs.

He had first heard Shri Nathji in a
Gurudwara in Lucknow, and Shri Nathji had
spoken on a quotation from the Holy Book of the Sikhs:

Sikh Language:

"Ur dhaare jo antar naam
Sarv men pekhe Bhagwan
Nimak nimak Thaakur namaskaare
Naanak, O aparsa sagal nistaare"

English Translation:

"He who keeps within himself-His Name,
And sees in all, the Eternal God,
In every breath who prostrates before Him,
Naanak! Such an enlightened soul saves all!"

From the day Sardar Sunder Singh heard
Shri Nathji’s sermon on this theme, he
became a great admirer of Shri Nathji.
Every morning, without fail, he would ride
up to Shri Nathji’s house on a horse and
bring flowers as homage.

One morning, there was a fierce rainstorm. Not a person
was seen on the roads and streets, but Shri
Nathji waited for Sunder Singh’s flowers.
There was a knock on the door.

It was Sardar Sunder Singh in a drenched raincoat,
flowers in hand. "Please accept my
nazaraana-my humble offering," he said, "I
cannot come inside because I am wet!

Shri Nathji said: "Sardar Sunder Singhji, all
other flowers in the world will fade awa y but these flowers of yours

which you have brought with such love and devotion through
thunderstorms and hailstors –shall always remain fresh in
my heart!”

And Shri Nathji continued to relate the
incident for many years after it had
occurred, keeping the flowers of Sardar
Sunder Singh alive before the world.

In the attached picture, HH Shri BHola Nathji is seen sitting at a
local party of the elite in the city of Mussoorie in the hills, where
a retired, aging, Sardar Sunder Singh is seen sitting next to him.
Shri Nathji is recalling his love and mentioning the incident of his
flowers of years ago.

The others sitting in the picture are a young Sikh and the famous
Sardar Harnam Singh and Maharaja Sarila a neighbour of HH Shri Nathji in Mussoorie at the time.

Whenever Shri Nathji would go to any party the party would light up with the aura of his divine light and the hearts of all present would be filled with love and peace spontaneously.

Shri Nathji's face would at once become filled with a Light Divine
and his face would light up with Divine Love the moment he met the humanity around him. This was the infinite love of hh Shri Bhola Nathji for the people of the world.

One can see his face shining with the glow of this love and his joy
at meeting and blessing people.
