THE DAWN OF FAITH

April 1
Thoughts of HH Shri Bhola Nathji (1902-1992) the Founder of the World Prayer Day for Peace.

There are many situations in life where Faith begins to be revealed to man.

The first stage is that in which man believes God exists, but wonders where He is, wonders what kind of a Being He is, wonders what His nature is like, and sometimes even wonders whether He exists or not.

He wonders that even if God exists, whether He will listen to his prayers or not, he wonders whether God will come to help him or not. Man asks himself:

“If I leave everything to Him, I wonder whether He will help me or not!”

The first stage is that of complete darkness and faithlessness. We cannot even call it a stage of faithlessness, because it did not come in contrast to a stage of faith. Man goes on living an ordinary mundane existence.

"Eat, Drink, and be Merry!" is his goal in life.

He believes he is in the world to derive as much happiness as he can, and he wishes to gather together as many material possessions as he can, in order to live in peace, regardless of whether he can get any peace from them or not.

He wishes to make himself as great as possible, as successful as possible, in the world, so that he can get over the lower states of life and live a life of happiness.

For as long as he sees success coming his way he remains very happy, but when the waves of the world carry him away in a storm of sorrow, and he can find no solace from any source, then he feels the need for help to save him from his troubles.

In search of help he runs from one person to another. He employs various means to escape the troubles that surround him. When he cannot escape from his misery and he cannot avoid it try as he may, then he looks for Someone to come and help him, one who will be unique and powerful enough.

And in such a state he lowers his head, drowned in the depths of sorrow and helplessness, and looks for that Pearl in the midst of storms which will remove the fear and restlessness of his heart.

At such a time the voice of religion rings out in his ears:

“Do not despair! There is surely Someone who will save you from your troubles!”

If this were not the case then either there would have been no troubles at all or else man would have had the strength to free himself from their bondage.

Therefore, O despairing man! Do not be afraid. Your protector is also present in this world, who will take you out of the well of misery.

Connect yourself to Him. Start believing in Him.
Pray to Him. And have faith that one day your troubles will cease!
