 THE THORN OF ATTACHMENT

FROM THE THOUGHTS OF HH SHRI BHOLA NATHJI, THE GREAT SPIRITUAL LUMINARY WHO GAVE PEACE AND BEATITUDE TO COUNTLESS FOLK IN THIS WORLD, RELIEVING THEM OF THEIR ILLS AND SORROWS, AND WHO GUIDES US AND HELP US FROM HIS CELESTIAL PLANE EVEN TODAY AND ANSWERS THE PRAYERS OF ALL THOSE WHO CALL OUT TO HIM,

Once Shri Nathji was out on a morning walk when an old lady rushed out of her house and called out to him:

"Maharaj! Please stop for a while and accept this beautiful flower from my garden!"

And saying this she gave the flower to HH Shri Nathji.

Shri Nathji thanked her profusely for the gift, and added:

"Mataji! O Dear Mother! This flower is so beautiful but it contains a thorn in it!"

The old day took the flower back and said

"Maharajji I am so sorry I hope it did not prick your finger!"

And then she added after examining the flower:

"Maharaj I dont see any thorn on its stalk! But my eyes are weak! Very sorry!"

Shri Nathji said: "Mataji I am not referring to a thorn on the stalk of the flower. I am referring to a hidden thorn inside it. "

"It is the most beautiful flower in your garden. And it has stolen my heart with its beauty.

"But one day is going to come when the flower will fade away!"

"Then my heart which has been so enraptured by its beauty will break!

"That is the hidden thorn in the flower that I am talking about, The thorn of attachment!"

"Whenever anything beautiful captures your heart, your heart simply breaks and is shattered when that thing goes away--- be it an external object or a person!"

Hence it has been said:

O Dard! Let not your heart be captured by anyone

Be thou loving to everyone,

But let not your heart be taken by anyone!"

The heart of man which is meant for God alone, cries out in shock "O God!" When that heart is broken by the world.

It cries out for that very God ,for which it was meant in the first place.
